Trophy Hunting in South Africa

Hunting in South Africa!

Southern Safaris specialises in rifle and bow hunting safaris in carefully selected areas of Southern Africa. Our hunting concessions have been specifically chosen to provide for the hunting of a wide variety of species, in their natural environment. The rich variety of species in their abundance, together with the skills of our professional hunters will assist you in the pursuit of your trophy. Experience the splendour of the African Bushveld. Based in Southern Kwazulu Natal, we offer tailor made hunting and fishing safaris in South Africa and Mozambique.

Kwa-Zulu Natal!

In Kwa-Zulu Natal province we specialize in hunting the indigenous trophies of the Umkomaas Valley and the Drakensberg Mountains. These areas are famous for Nyala, Bushbuck, Kudu, Reedbuck, Mountain Reedbuck and Vaal Rhebuck. Various more common species occur in the same areas.

Umkomaas Valley!

All safaris into Kwazulu Natal start from the Durban International Airport. Road transfers take approximately two hours (150km) into the Umkomaas Valley. Accommodation is in typical Game Lodge fashion, with private chalets and on suite bathrooms overlooking the breathtaking Umkomaas River. Our Concession is situated 150 km from Durban in the Umkomaas Valley. The camp is situated on a 3000 ha ranch on the banks of the Umkomaas River. This area is not game fenced and allow for the natural movement of our main species in Nyala, Kudu and Bushbuck. The topography is typically mountainous with the vegetation Soft Bushveld. Over the past 4 years we have managed and developed this area of the valley into one of the prime Nyala and Bushbuck destinations in the country. We are currently averaging 26.5" on our Nyala trophies taken in this area (for last season). Our best trophy has been a 29" bull.

Drakensberg!

Our concession is in the Kokstad area of the Southern Drakensberg foothills where we hunt mainly on open farmland covering the Mount Currie district. The topography and vegetation are typically mountainous Grassland and lies at an altitude of roughly 6 000 ft above sea level with peaks of up to 7 000 ft. Marshy valley floors combined with steep grassy slopes makes for ideal Reedbuck habitat. The quality of trophies is exceptional and we collected the current No.2 in Rowland Ward (18 3/8") from this area in 2000. We boast a 100% success rate on quality Reedbuck and Mountain Reedbuck.

Accomodation!

Accomodation on all our concessions is in beautifully apointed chalets, with breathtaking views. The guest chalets are air conditioned, has an on suite bathroom, and is equipedded with a kitchennette, for your convenience.

Meals and drinks: Meals are served from the cental dining room adjasent to the sundeck and the traditional "Braai" area. Typical South African fare is prepared by your hostess, in a very cosy kitchen. Emphasis is placed on preparing venison and each hunter will get the opportunity to enjouy the fruits of his or her labor. Cooldrinks are included in the daly service and we cater for most tastes, where possible. We enjoy serving our world famous SA wines and we can stock speciality items with prior arrangement.
